  • #1 RULE - DO NOT BUY ONLINE OR WITHOUT SEEING AND TRYING IT!
  • Research reputable brands and limit your search to reliable, well-known products.
  • Ask the age and if parts and service are available from the seller.
  • Consider the initial and long-term cost of buying from an individual vs. a reputable retailer that can offer a warranty and service.
  • Depending on the item, if you need to disassemble, move and reassemble, consider your ability to do that work.
  • Ask an expert what signs to look for that might indicate problems or wear. Treadmills can be especially hard to evaluate and lead to large repair costs.
  • Thoroughly test all electronic functions including things like incline, stride, speed, heart rate, and all programs.
  • Listen for any noise that might indicate motors, rollers or bearings are worn and in need of replacement.
  • Measure your area and ceiling height to make sure it will fit before getting it home!
  • Is it well maintained, clean and rust free? If not, best to move on!
